At last count 57 runs were open, all 3 lodges were operating, and no one is complaining. So your prayers for snow have been answered. The snow is falling on Mammoth Mountain. the snow is about to fall again with over a foot expected the last week of January. The crews are out and the snow guns are going. Yes, we’re still making our sacrafices to Ullr the snow god who has been summoned by this one fun fellow, and we're going to get more natural snow toward mid January. Or so it says the voodoo weather reports we’re all reading. In the meantime thought, snow showers are being felt every night as the evening temperatures have been quite cold and the snow guns are going. So the weather at Mammoth Mountain may be sunshine and blue bird skies during the day, but snowing at night! But that doesn’t mean we all can stop doing our snow dance. Keep going as this guy does.
There are things you can do that you have never been able to do with a dry winter. When was the last time you skated on a frozen lake? Taken a wintery drive through Yosemite? Or took a hike into the backcountry? ,br>
Susan from Simi Valley called to tell us that even though it looks a little crisp along the edges of the runs, the snow on the runs was pretty darn good. She also cautioned us to allow plenty of time to stop so that we don’t hit dirt at the chair lifts (Thanks for the tip!) If you have seen photos, you will see that the runs are covered, it's just a little... well... bare on the sides. She’s correct. In the meanwhile, you should get your skis up here as the town is alive with plenty of things to do especially in the evenings.
Coming up we want to remind you that Presidents Weekend - February 14-17 is a popular time for Mammoth so if you’re planning your yearly visit, you should make your Mammoth reservations now. Much of the slopeside lodging is already gone.
Ski Week - February 17 - 22 This is an old traditional time for Southern California to come to Mammoth as well. The public schools are on semester break, and you can get good bargains on rooms. All our “locals” from So Cal come up for this weekend and it is a big annual reunion for all.
If you are not a friend of ours on Facebook, then you are missing out on some great notices for special deals. You should also be subscribed to our free newsletters to take full advantage of all the discounts we get from the Mammoth businesses.
