Mammoth Weather Gets Snow And A Lot More Coming
The latest weather storm plummeting Southern California has dumped snow on Mammoth Mountain. 24" of snow has fallen with more on the way. This weekend another snow system is moving in and Mammoth will get more. We currently have 50" of base which is nearly 5 feet, and counting. The roads have been remarkably clear, and Cal Trans is doing a great job with the plows. You will need 4WD with Mud-Snow Tires or chains and if you want to make it really an easy drive... bring the 4WD. The visibility is excellent and if you drive during daylight, you will see a sight not often seen, snow in Olancha! The temperatures are in the 20's, there is little or no wind, and it seems mild outdoors. Ski after new Years and before Presidents Day for the best values on lodging and lift tickets, and don't forget midweek is always the least expensive time to come to Mammoth. |
After Presidents Day in Mid February prices drop again, and February is the best month for new snow according to Mammoth weather history. With El Nino this year doing his thing, we should really call him "Godzilla" as he has been way better than Mother Nature and certainly much more predictable. February just after Presidents Weekend is traditionally called "ski week" and a great time for families to come up, and many of the Southern California Schools have the time off for students to enjoy the California mountains.
