Up, up and away, in my beautiful gondola. With windows all the way around, the view from the top is fantastic! The kids think its like a very familiar skyway basket ride, you'll think this is the coolest scenic ride around. The Panorama Gondola climbs up Mammoth's Summit to 11,053-ft. from the base at the Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge. View the surrounding mountain ranges, lakes and the dramatic peaks of the Minarets. Enjoy the best view of the Eastern Sierra region unless you like helicopters!
You can make a nice lunch stop halfway at the new McCoy Station and sit outside and sip cocktails, or go inside to the food court for your lunch. Meet your skier and biker friends for a fun happy hour.
Top of the Sierra Interpretive Center
At the top of Mammoth's Panorama Gondola is the Sierra Interpretive Center. It is a view of the entire world! You'll see all the mountain tops for as far as the eye can see. There are telescopes, signage marking what you're viewing, and a nice little cafe to have a bite to eat.
On a clear day you can see the Minarets, the pointy peaks off to the west, that make up a piece of the Mammoth heritage... and logo. Yosemite is just beyond the last mountain range to the west, and the Inyo Craters, and the White Mountains on the way down to the east.
Mammoth has another gondola that starts at the Mammoth Village and goes to Canyon Lodge. This is a transportation gondola to move people from the village to the slopes. Not the same views, yet almost as much fun.
Riding the gondola is included in the price of a lift ticket. You can also buy a ride for the non skiers. During the summer the gondola ride is included in a mountain bike park ticket and non bikers can buy a ticket. It is open year round.
