Snowboarding in Mammoth has been elevated to new levels. Not only does Mammoth offer several terrain parks, but a boarder cross, pipe and super pipe. The park is designed by the Mammoth snowboard team which is world class. This makes riding in Mammoth far superior.
The terrain parks are located throughout the mountain. At Main Lodge exists the "Unbound" park with its own chair lift. Old timers will recall it is "chair 6", but it is indeed called Unbound. This park has rails, boxes, obstacles, jumps at various heights and is also access to both the regular pipe and the super pipe. The super pipe has 22 foot high walls and is used for competitions. On some days the mattress is out on the largest jumps so landings are well... cushioned. To access the mid mountain parks, you need to take chair 10 - "gold Rush Express", Chair 16 - "Canyon Express" or Chair 4 - Rollercoaster. This midmountain park is mostly jumps and starts at the drop off point of Chair 4 and continues to the bottom of the Rollercoaster run. It is a favorite because it is less crowded, and is a longer run. It is divided in two, with the easier jumps mid way down.
The boarder cross run can be accessed from either the run called "Lost in the Woods or "Merry Go Round" but most will start at the top of the mid mountain terrain park, and ski to the side. The particular run is also accessed by skiers looking for a thrill. It has banked turns that lead into jumps and whoopee doos of hills and valleys. It will end up close to the bottom of chair 4, where you can hop on and do it all over again.
Mammoth is a mixed use mountain with both skiers and snowboarders. The trend has been for riders to switch to twin tip skis as you can do anything on them that you could on a snowboard, and the release mechanism is much safer. You'll find these terrain parks and runs truly exhilarating and another reason your vacations to Mammoth Mountain Resort are what makes us consistently in the top ten of resorts in the west.
