Weather Outside is Delightful
You know how the song goes. "Oh the weather outside is delightful.." And so is the current Mammoth Lakes weather forecast with more snow on the way. The current storm system is set to bring between 3 and 6 Feet of snow to the Eastern Sierra making this truly a white Christmas. This much snow has never been seen in a single month since back in 1950's. Record breaking snow drops are being forecast. |
While no specific advisory has been given, when this much snow is in the weather forecast, it is imperative that travelers heed the warnings and check the road conditions frequently. The Eastern Sierra is known for having weather that changes within an hour and it can easily go from sunny to stormy in minutes. Currently, three back to back storms are going to hit the Sierra Mountains and temperatures at night will be in the single digits. Daytime temperatures will be in the teens up to the low 20's and yes Virigina even though there will be wind, Santa will be coming to Mammoth.
When traveling to Mammoth and other locations in the mountain, drivers should check 800--GAS-ROAD for the Caltrans road and highway reports hourly. The system is auto updated and the most current information is always available. Additionally, at all times in the mountain, drivers must carry tire chains and /or be in four wheel drive vehicles. In the event a blizzard hits, the Mammoth town services will be out in force with snowplows and will escort drivers safely into town.
The town is ready for a big Christmas holiday season with parties at every restaurant, and New Years has always been the biggest party day in Mammoth. There's Snowplace Like Mammoth. Don't let the weather outside be frightful, come on up for the holidays.
