Cross Country Skiing
While Mammoth is renowned for its world-class
downhill skiing, our cross country ski trail system is among the best in the
West. The trails are groomed by the town and are free to use. You can venture out on your own on the Inyo National Forest's winter trail system. The surrounding mountains, forests and meadows
offer excellent ski touring and telemark terrain.
There is an extensive Blue Diamond
trail system which mark the route for cross country skiers through
tall Jeffrey Pine Forests and to fascinating geologic attractions
like the Inyo Craters, Obsidian Dome, and Hot Creek site.
Orange Diamond Trails mark
the corresponding routes explicitly for snowmobiling. You won't have to go
far to find magnificent vistas of the High Sierra. Popular are the trails around Lookout Mountain because of these breathtaking landscapes.
Tamarack XC Ski Center The Tamarack Lodge Cross Country Ski Center is a part of the Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort and quite possibly the jewel of
Mammoth Lakes, California. Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center is
located at Twin Lakes in the Mammoth Lakes Basin off Lake Mary Road, grooms 45 kilometers
of track and skating lanes and provides lessons and rentals.
Please observe the Ski Trail Regulations and if you are a weekend
warrior, please follow these simple
rules. The Mammoth Visitor Center and Ranger Station located
at the entrance to town on State Highway 203 offers free winter
trail maps and information on guide services, special events, current
trail conditions and regulations.
